Plains Leopard Frog

Description:  The Plains Leopard Frog (Lithobates blairi) is usually tan, gray, or light brown in color with small rounded darker spots on the body. It also usually has a small white dot in the center of the tympanum as does the similar-looking Southern Leopard Frog. The Plains Leopard frog can be identified by the interrupted dorsolateral fold that is broken and offset near the hind legs and bracketed inward toward the center of the back and by a dark spot on the head positioned in front of the eyes.

Habitat: Plains leopard frogs are found in weedy areas alongside water from woodland edges, to grassy-edged farm ponds to roadside ditches.

Life History:

Range: Found in extreme Northwest Tennessee along the Kentucky border.
